Subject: Re: My grandfather was Cmdr Bruce S, Weber From: Oral I. (Van) Ford, Ph.D. van4d@comcast.net>

Re: Cdr. Bruce S. Weber of AG 31. I was not in AG 31, I was in Ag. 30. But, I'm answering because I have read some about Cdr. Weber and AG 31. Cdr. Weber was the Commanding Officer of AG 31 flying off of the U.S.S. Belleau Wood starting on July 10, 1945. They engaged in sweeps and strikes against Kumagaya airfield, in the Tokyo Plain area and against airfields, ports and railroad facilities on Hokkaido. They attacked the battleship Nagato docked at Yokosuka. They attacked the Japanese fleet in Kure Harbor. (AG 30 had also done that earlier.) They made a fighter sweep of airfields and factories in the Nagoya area. They struck the electronics industry at Kawasaki, about 12 miles from Tokyo. After the cessation of hostilities were declared, they flew over prisoner-of-war camps to drop medical supplies and food. Reference: The report entitled "Flight Quarters", edited by Lt. John W. Alexander, 1946.
